Tensile Steel Pavilion

Steel is a structural element that helps a slender wooden block to stand stiff and stable. Steel cables and their tensile property has been used to build this pavilion.

Concept :

The idea of stiffness a slender wooden block was tried to achieve by using steel cables and wooden interlock, where tensegrity of steel is seen. Various iterations of the cables with the block were made.

Module :

The physical model shows a column standing with the help of steel cables anchored to the ground at four points.

Overall Pavilion:

Stage 1 (Process) : Steel cables attached at the top of every column that connects a column with another forming the roof fails, as the column will experience an anti-gravity force which will inturn disconnect the anchored column.

Stage 2 (Final design) : Wooden slender beams would connect each column and steel cables would be attached to the ground as shown below.
